Lily Paige is here!

Lily Paige Weidenbach was born September 3, 2008 at 6:48PM. She weighed 8lbs 5oz and was 19.3 inches long.

On the day she was born we went to the hospital for a scheduled induction at 7:30AM. Jaclyn had already been in labor since Tuesday morning but she was only dilated one centimeter. So they started the pitocin to hopefully get everything rolling. The pitocin really didnt help at all. It caused Jaclyn's contractions to be much stronger but she remained at one centimeter of dilation. It also caused Lily's heart rate to drop drastically every time Jaclyn had a contraction. The OB decided to try the epidural and see if a more relaxed Jaclyn would be less stress on Lily. Again we struck out. The drugs worked wonders on Jaclyn's pain (she said it felt like she was 7 months pregnant again; i.e. big belly but no pain) but the contractions continued to drop Lily's heart rate.

By 6PM Jaclyn had only dilated to 1.5 centimeters. The OB decided that we didn't need to risk it any longer so she called a c-section. I have to tell you we were very nervous about the idea of a c-section. We had both seen it performed on videos and Discovery Health but when its your wife on the operating room table......its totally different. The decision was easy as Lily's safety was at stake but scary nonetheless. They prepared Jaclyn and I very quickly. From the moment we made the call to the start of the operation was less than 15 minutes. The anesthesiologist put Jaclyn on some drugs that took away all the pain but it made her shake very badly. Apparently its a side effect.....no pain = shakes; lots of pain = no shakes; Jaclyn chose shakes. I got to watch the operation which was really cool. Watching them remove Lily and getting to see her for the first time was truly amazing. She did not want to come out!!! Afterwards I took some pictures and they sent me off to the nursery for check in. They finished sewing Jaclyn up and brought her back to the L&D room for recovery.

It was a long tiring day but in the end both of my girls are safe and doing well. The scary part.....Jaclyn and I are parents!!!! :)
